Welcome to the Bemiss Neighborhood!
The Bemiss Neighborhood is one of Spokane’s oldest and most established neighborhoods, with roots tied closely to the early growth of both Spokane and the historic Hillyard district. Located in northeast Spokane, Bemiss is known for its strong sense of community, diverse residents, and blend of historic charm and neighborhood pride. Tree-lined streets, classic homes, neighborhood parks, schools, and local gathering spaces help create a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere that residents value deeply.
Originally developed during Spokane’s early expansion in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Bemiss grew alongside the railroad industry and surrounding residential areas. Today, the neighborhood reflects that rich history through its architecture, long-standing institutions, and generations of families who continue to call the area home. Residents enjoy convenient access to schools, parks, shopping, transit, and nearby recreation while maintaining the close-knit feel of a traditional Spokane neighborhood.

Bemiss Neighborhood Council meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:00pm.

For the purpose of neighborhood planning, Bemiss, Hillyard and Whitman neighborhoods of Northeast Spokane choose to meet together addressing the area’s common location, culture, history, and goals for the future.
